The Central LA Chamber of Commerce Plans Membership Drive
Deborah Randolph

The Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce is a nearly 100 year old organization that promotes economic growth for the citizens of our area. The Chamber fosters a business climate that supports business and industry through a wide variety of services and programs delivered through six divisions of the organization. The Chamber Divisions are Economic Development, Governmental Affairs, Education/Workforce, Military Affairs, Quality of Life and Membership. Each of the divisions is chaired by a Chamber Board Member volunteer.

The Chamber works with its CLEDA partner to attract new business and industry to the area. Additionally, the Chamber offers business services, local knowledge, legislative advocacy, networking opportunities and business to business connectivity to its members.

Currently, the Central Louisiana Chamber has over 760 members. Our goal is to attract 100 new members before the end of the year as a result of an upcoming membership drive. Ten teams of volunteers will reach out to businesses and individuals on November 15th, 16th and 17th to personally invite them to be a part of the Chamber.

The message that we will share with potential new members centers on the six “P’s” of Membership in the Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce:

Profits: Investment in the Chamber of Commerce returns a big dividend directly to businesses by enhancing their visibility in the community. The Chamber is a vehicle for businesses to network and to showcase products and services from member to member.

Publicity:  As a part of the big picture, member volunteers share in the publicity of getting things done in our area. Member businesses are frequently featured in media and on the Chamber website. Member sponsors of Chamber events are featured in signage, advertising and media coverage.

Programs: Membership services such as Member 2 Member Discounts, Military Family Discounts, Morning Coffee’s, Strategic Luncheons, Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies, Business After Hours mixers, and a wide range of educational programs.

Participation: It is only through volunteer involvement, that the Chamber represents the voice of the business and professional community. The Chamber Committees include: Legislative Affairs, Infrastructure, Education/Workforce, School Superintendent’s Business Advisory Committee, Economic Development, Small Business Development, Quality of Life, Military Affairs, Membership and the new Young Professionals Initiative.

Prestige: As a member of the Chamber team of community leaders, members hold the key to making things happen. Ideas, input and actions are translated into results. Members ARE the Chamber…working to make ours a better place to live and to work.

Protection: Now, more than ever before, views of our members must be made known to our elected officials. Through our governmental affairs process, events and legislative advocacy, we express views about issues and legislation affecting business and industry on the local, state and national levels. We also serve as an information resource for our elected officials.
