Red River Chorale Celebrates Love with Poetry

How do I love thee?  So much love…so many ways!  The Red River Chorale’s upcoming concert, “Literature and Love,” celebrates love in many forms with fine music based on beautiful poetry. Love of country is powerfully portrayed with performance of “The Star Spangled Banner,” the beautiful “Air Force Hymn,” and the powerful Navy Hymn—“Eternal Father, Strong to Save.”

Love of nature is sensitively expressed in the poetry of Robert Frost set to music by Randall Thompson.  Romantic love, as described by William Shakespeare—sometimes endearingly and sometimes humorously—is set to music in madrigal form by composer Emma Lou Diemer. It is also expressed in the Biblical “Set Me As a Seal Upon Your Heart,” set to music by Rene’ Clausen.  Finally, love of God is represented by the great hymns “Come Down, O Love Divine” and “What Wondrous Love Is This,” culminating with the soaring “Canticle of Praise,” a setting of the poetry of Psalms 103 and 148 by composer John Ness Beck.

“Literature and Love” will be performed at First United Methodist Church in Alexandria beginning at 7:30pm on Tuesday, October 16th. Tickets are $15.00 for adults and $5.00 for students.  They may be purchased from any Chorale singer or board member, from redriverchorale.com, ticket-central.org, and Red River Music Company.  For further information, call (318) 484-4463.
