The Rapides Symphony kicks off our 51st season with our “Pops on the River” concert on Saturday, September 30th.  The concert of music from the movie, TV, and computer screen will include many familiar tunes that people of all ages will enjoy.

One of the hottest new genres of symphonic music is music from video games and we are excited to perform several of these movie-like soundtracks for popular computer games such as “World of Warcraft”, “Kingdom Hearts”, “Halo” and others.   In addition, we will play TV theme songs from old (“I Love Lucy”) to new (“Game of Thrones”) and many themes from movies including James Bond to “The Magnificent Seven”.  And of course, no concert of movie music would be complete without the music of the most famous film composer of our times, John Williams. The hauntingly beautiful theme from “Schindler’s List” will be played by the Symphony’s outstanding first violinist, Lin He, and we’ll close the concert with the epic music from “Star Wars”.   A special addition to this concert is the world premiere of a piece written to commemorate our 51st Season entitled “New Beginnings” by Cenla composer Nettie Chenevert.

This free concert will be on the Red River at the Alexandria Riverfront Amphitheater at 7:30pm on Saturday, September 30th.   Everyone is welcome to bring their own food and drink, but if you don’t want to carry all of that stuff to the concert, food and drink vendors will be on site to meet all of your needs.

The concert is free and open to all on the Amphitheater steps and grounds, but if you would like to have the comfort of table seating, please call the Symphony office at (318) 442-9709.   Tables of 10 for your friends, clients, or co-workers are $350.
