Ripple on the Red: Rapides Parish’s Literary FestivalThe Rapides Parish Library proudly announces the upcoming inaugural Ripple on the Red Literary Festival. This new offering from your library will begin at Westside Regional Library with a Novel Event featuring Ashley Weaver at 6:00pm on November 17th.  A local favorite, Author Ashley Weaver will join us for a festive book club party with games, prizes, and fun, themed from her Amory Ames mystery series. RPL book club members, library patrons, and community members are encouraged to read any of the books in Ms. Weaver’s Amory Ames series in advance. Though this is not required to attend, it could help in winning prizes!

The literary fun will continue on Saturday, November 18th with a variety of literary workshops and activities for all ages at the Westside Library, located at 5416 Provine Place in Alexandria.  Workshops will be hosted by poets, storytellers, and authors including Curt Iles, Shelley Jinks Johnson, Ashley Weaver, and Dr. David Holcombe. Workshop topics will include fantasy writing, flash fiction creation, series writing, and more. Children’s stories, crafts and activities with special guests Rosa Metoyer and M.L. Tarpley are slated for Saturday as well as workshops and activities for teens such as an anime discussion and featured poetry workshop with Sherry Gentle from Ignite the Mic Alexandria.

Other features of the festival include an author and artist alley with the Rapides Parish Library’s 2022 and 2023 Cenla Authors and Artists of the Month, community resources, food trucks, free books, crafts, and a cooking demonstration with Anita Sanders of Dat New Orleans Taste.  The Ripple on the Red is a registered National Novel Writing Month site, so all attendees are invited to participate in this celebration of the creative process by listening, learning, exploring, and/or putting pen to paper.

Ripple on the Red: Rapides Parish’s Literary FestivalRipple on the Red is not only for authors, though. Library devotees, story aficionados, wordsmiths, poets, and language lovers will all find something to love at this new festival. This uniquely Cenla event highlights the wealth of talented seasoned and aspiring local authors we are fortunate to have in our community. Join us as we celebrate all things literary in Rapides with Ripple on the Red!
