Special emphasis is given to the continuing needs of teenagers such as health and fitness, nutrition, staying in school, resources for pregnant mom, as well as the labor and delivery process. October 11: Southwest Modeling & Talent Open House Meet & Greet, Alexandria Mall, 5-7 pm. During the open house, you can meet our team, register for our charm & etiquette program or join our modeling club. The goal of this unique program is to teach youth a variety of skills and techniques that will help them develop an understanding of what it means to be independent and self-sufficient. October 12: Diabetes Group Class, RRMC Medical Terrace Auditorium, 9am. This program is program designed for adults with newly diagnosed diabetes and for people needing a refresher course in diabetes management. This is a basic diabetes program, therefore no physician referral is required. The program content follows the American Diabetes Association guidelines and covers a variety of topics, including meal planning, monitoring blood sugar, medications, complications, and learning to deal with a chronic disease. October 17: Cancer Support Group, Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital Cascade Room, 12:00noon. If you or someone you know has cancer, or you are a caretaker of someone with cancer, please join this group on the third Monday of each month. Our guest speaker will be Dennis Wimmert, a 7 year cancer survivor and a six year bone marrow transplant survivor. Wimmert is also a cancer advocate at the local, state and national levels. October 21-23: Mega Force Event, Pisgah Baptist Church in Forest Hill, 7pm. For three days, area residents are invited to witness extraordinary feats of strength by Steve Carrier of Mega Force Ministries. Carrier, from Dallas, Texas, is a world-record holder for breaking 30 Louisville Slugger baseball bats in 53 seconds over his knee. During the event, Carrier will share his story of overcoming all the odds and perform amazing feats of strength. Come join us for this exciting event!
