intothewoods-350x0Announcing an opportunity to see a national award-winning cast performing Into The Woods, Jr.!  LBM Productions and Alexandria Country Day School will present the popular musical at the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center on March 21st and 22nd.  Shows run nightly at 7:00pm with an additional 2:00pm matinee on Saturday.

“Once upon a time…” the Brothers Grimm “go Broadway” as Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine offer up a cockeyed fairy tale in Into The Woods, Jr., an adaptation of one of Sondheim’s most popular works that has been adapted especially for young performers.

All of your favorite characters—Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel and the Witch—meet and interact in this whimsical original story. The sophisticated score tells the tale of a baker and his wife who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the king’s festival; and Jack, who wishes his beloved cow would give milk so he wouldn’t have to sell her. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse and wind up changed forever. On their way, they run into familiar and mysterious fairytale characters whose stories become as entwined as the gnarled woods themselves.

The cast of 19 students, ages 11 to 15, has at its core the ACDS Tiger Entertainment performers, who recently won the “Excellence in Music Award” at iTheatrics Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta. Event judges included Broadway performer Jeny Foote and Michael Bobbit, Producing Artistic Director of Adventure Theatre MTC.

Said Foote, “It is just amazing work to be able to handle Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods. These students exhibited great character work by all.” Bobbit added, “You can tell that these kids love what they are doing. It makes me love my job even more. I am thankful for them.”  In addition, Chandler Higgins, who plays the Baker, was chosen as an All-Star at the festival, and Claire Marie Miller, the Witch, also chosen as an All-Star, was cast in Music Theatre International’s choreography DVD of Into The Woods, Jr. to be produced by iTheatrics this summer in New York City.

The show is directed by Laine Berry Miller, with Jan Reich as Assistant Director, Kendall From as Lighting Director, Robert Burns as Sound Director, Donna Andries as Patrons and Tickets Coordinator and Melissa Bush providing Technical and Artistic Assistance.  Parents of the performers pitch in on all aspects of the production, including costuming, sets, props, backstage management, and fly rail.

The cast consists of Hunter Andries, Regan Brewer, Mia Broussard, Makinley Covington, Austin Etier, Chandler Higgins, Price Jenkins, Emma Kinberger, Claire Marie Miller, Morgan Miller, Emma Nance, Jackson Neal, Suhaas Penukonda, Rylee Rayburn, Gracie Reichman, Christian Salazar, Taylor Scott, Ryann Tudor, and Alayna Wall.
