The Cenla India Association, in collaboration with the Children’s Advocacy Network, will be celebrating the 8th Annual Holi Fest 2019 in downtown Alexandria, on Saturday, April 27th from 11:00am to 2:00pm. This is the only event of its kind, where colors are free, and fun is abundant for adults and children of all ages. This unforgettable experience has been an Alexandria tradition since 2011. The event grew from 50 people the first year to 500 people last year. The day starts with a 5K Race/Walk/Run. Proceeds from the run/walk/jog go to Children’s Advocacy Network. The vision of Children’s Advocacy Network is to create a community to eradicate the cycle of abuse and neglect, and ensure that every child has a safe and permanent home.

Holi Fest 2019: “Color for Kids”Holi originated 3,000 years ago in Northern India. One of the most awaited festivals in the country and celebrated by all over the country in color, there is no rich or poor, no king or shepherd, no black, white or brown. In color we are all one. Amid the cloud of red, blue, yellow, green, and everything in between, festival-goers can often be found laughing, singing, and dancing in the streets. The joyous event, which takes place in India, Nepal, and other countries around the world, traditionally is a celebration to welcome spring. “Festival of Colors” undoubtedly lives up to its name. It is a celebration of fertility, color, and love, as well as the triumph of good over evil.

Here in Alexandria, spring comes alive with a rainbow of colors showering our downtown canvas. The festival is celebrated with much joy and vigor. Holi is not just a festival; though it’s a tradition which dates back millennia, it’s one of those festivals that brings out the child in everyone. It is, indeed, the festival of color. The time when everyone just drowns in these awesome colors of love, forgetting all their differences, is amazing.

Holi Fest 2019: “Color for Kids”Holi Fest is free and open to the public. Colors are free for everyone. Come and play. Meet up with friends for a color walk, taste the cuisine of India, enjoy entertainment and exposure to other cultures within our amazing city, all while supporting the Children’s Advocacy Network in their pursuit to eradicate Child Abuse.
