June 5: One Day Breastfeeding Class, Medical Terrace Gallery Room at RRMC, 9:00am – 3:00pm.  Intended for women wanting to breastfeed their infants, this class is taught by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and focuses on advantages, preparation and troubleshooting techniques. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for your baby. Research shows that learning about breastfeeding prenatally enhances your breastfeeding experience. June 7: Bereaved Parents Support Group, Power Center,  6:30pm – 7:30pm.  This is an on-going support group for parents and grandparents whose child has died. Educational handouts and pamphlets are available, and each month we will focus on a different topic.  This month will be a book review and other helpful tools to survive.  Please bring a picture of your child to share with the group.  Come at 6:00pm and share fellowship and a brown bag supper. June 8: Patience Quilters, West Side Regional Library, 6:30pm.  Patience Quilters meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at West Side Regional Library, located at 5416 Provine Place in Alexandria, off Highway 28 West. June 9 & 17: Safe Sitter Class, 7:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m. For boys and girls ages 11 to 13. Learn the basic skills you need to be a safe and successful babysitter. This medically-accurate, hands-on class teaches sitters how to entertain children and keep them safe, how to perform basic child care skills, how to call for emergency help, what to do when a child chokes, how to keep themselves safe and how to start a successful babysitting business.  Class size is limited; pre-registration is required. This month we will discuss favorite books and movies to help in the grieving process. June 21: Cancer Support Group, Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital Cascade Room, noon.   Geneticist Duane Superneau, M.D., will be the guest speaker. Dr. Superneau is the Medical Director of Genetic Services of Lady of the Lake Physician Group at our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. He will speak on the topic: “Cancer: Is it in You?” If you or someone you know has cancer, or you are a caretaker of someone with cancer, please join this group on the third Monday of each month.
