You will fall in love with downtown Natchitoches this season as the City prepares for a number of fun-filled events that offer something for everyone.  September is an extremely busy month in Natchitoches, and festivities kick off with the annual Cane River Zydeco Festival on Labor Day weekend. Between September 3rd – 4th, visitors will experience authentic Zydeco music as well as great food vendors and a motorcycle Poker Run. The following weekend, Natchitoches celebrates its most famous food dish at the annual Natchitoches Meat Pie Festival September 10th – 11th in downtown Natchitoches. Come see for yourself why Natchitoches is the official “Meat Pie Capital” of Louisiana. Activities include a parade, meat pie cooking contest, meat pie eating contest, music, children’s activities, and of course, lots of meat pies! On Sunday, September 26th, athletes will run, bike and swim their way through the City of Natchitoches at the Seventh Annual Meat Pie Tri. This annual triathlon, produced by Run Wild Event Management, L.L.C., will feature more than 400 competitors as they race their way to the finish line on Front Street. The race begins at 7:00am on September 26th, and the public is encouraged to come out and cheer on the racers. A pre-race pasta party will be held the night before the triathlon on Saturday, September 25th featuring world champion athlete Sheila Taormina as the guest speaker. The event will take place at 5:00pm at the Natchitoches Events Center.  Taormina is the only woman to have competed in four consecutive summer Olympics in three completely different sports. She has won several awards including being a 2004 World Champion Triathlete and earning a gold medal in the 1996 Olympics. For information on Sheila Taormina, please visit www.sheilat.com.

Zydeco and the Meat Pie TriThe public is invited to attend the pre-race party. Tickets are $15.00 per person for participants and family members and $20.00 for the general public. Tickets are $10.00 for children 9 and under. Reserved seating and special pricing is available for groups of 8 or more.
