On Saturday, July 14th, park staff at the Mansfield State Historic Site will offer a fascinating look at Union naval warships employed during the Red River Campaign, the Union’s failed attempt to capture Shreveport, in the spring of 1864.  The program will begin at 2:00pm.

Through the use of informative slides and images, guests will learn about the capabilities and specifications of these 19th century vessels and compare them with naval ships of today.  How these warships were used during the campaign and their fate afterward will also be discussed.

Mansfield State Historic Site is located on LA Highway 175, three miles south of the town of Mansfield.  Admission is $4.00 per person ages 4 to 61; seniors 62 and over and children 3 and under are admitted free.  For more information, call (318) 872-1474 locally or (888) 677-6267 toll free, or visit www.LaStateParks.com.
