This Is Living

We recently experienced a loss in the Hankins house.  That’s right, a member of our family has passed.  Just yesterday, I received a text from my wife, it went something like this: “I think the bunny died.” Our eldest daughter, Avery, had a pet bunny, and for some reason or another, Thumperella Funnelcake Hankins (aka Bunny) didn’t make it.  Avery was devastated.  Something that was once full of life, was now lifeless.  We proceeded to give Thumperella a proper home-going, but you could see the somewhat harsh reality of the moment on Avery’s face.  Thumperella will be missed.

I realize a bunny dying isn’t the most devastating loss most of us will face in our lives, but it does bring our attention to reality.  The longer you live, the more you realize how truly brief this life is.  Days, weeks, months, years, decades, seasons of life seem to come and go so quickly.  One day you’re 19 and the next you’re pushing 40.  That’s me, by the way.  The truth is, even if you live 100+ years on this planet, it’s brief at best in the light of eternity.  With this in mind, it’s important to live life every day intentionally and with purpose.  But how can you live life in this way today, tomorrow and beyond?

Jesus said it this way in John 10:10 (MSG): “I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.”  Jesus didn’t come to this planet to simply show us how amazing His life was, He came to give His life for us and to give His life to us.

Jesus went on to say in John 11:25-26 (NKJV), “I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.  And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.  Do you believe this?”  These are some pretty big promises Jesus is making here!  Simply put, Jesus is saying to put your faith in Him, and His life will flow into your life.  Eternal life, the life of God will be yours.  This life isn’t measured exclusively in length, but in quality.  The way to truly live today, tomorrow and throughout your eternal existence is to put your faith in Jesus and find your life in Him.

I’ve got good news for you. You can live—I mean really live—life to the fullest.  You can enjoy the days, weeks, months, years, decades and seasons of this life.  You can begin enjoying real and eternal life today! Don’t let another moment go by; don’t let another breath escape your lungs.  Believe in Jesus.  Call on His Name.  I know your life will never be the same.

1 John 5:12 (NKJV): “He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
