Adobe Photoshop PDFThis isn’t your grandmother’s library, and the staff at the library involved in the 3rd Annual Creative Con aren’t exactly what you’d expect either!  The Rapides Parish Library’s Creative Con is celebrating its third year of inspiring kids and adults to explore their creative side.  “We’ll explore comic art, costuming, acting, writing, just about anything that you can designate as creative—we’ll be exploring it!” says Susan Baker, with the Outreach and Youth Services Department.

If you are a big fan of sci-fi/fantasy books, TV series, Manga, Anime, graphic novels, comic books, art, video games, Cos-play, acting, make-up and special effects, robotics, 3D models and design, or any other type of creative medium then on Saturday, February 20th from 10:00am to 5:00pm, you will want to be at the Alexandria Mall located at 3437 Masonic Drive in Alexandria for the 3rd Annual Creative Con: Where Worlds Collide, presented by the Rapides Parish Library.

The first Creative Con started with a handful of fans gathering together at the Rapides Parish Westside Regional Library and it quickly outgrew that space to become a creative convention that brings together a wide variety of artists, designers, make-up artists, writers, actors, gaming designers and programmers, and attendees from all over the Central Louisiana area.  “This Creative Con is definitely where ‘worlds collide’,” says Baker. “It doesn’t matter who you are or what your interest, all shapes, sizes, colors, looks, we are all here celebrating the same thing. We’re celebrating creativity!

There will be something for everyone to do and see, from speakers and discussion panels to costumes for both kids and adults. This day is all about making sure everyone feels at home with their creativity. The space will be filled with the sounds of inspiration, innovation, imagination and most of all–the celebration of all things creative!

This year, Creative Con welcomes author, editor, interviewer, archivist, host, producer, voiceover, actor—Larry Nemecek.  As author of the classic Star Trek: Next Generation Companion and now Stellar Cartography maps/book set, twice-portrayor of Star Trek Continues’ Dr. McCoy, producer of the fan-historic The Con of Wrath documentary, spokesman for non-profit Enterprise in Space global student project orbiter, and founder of the pioneering PORTAL 47 deep-dive fan experience—native Okie Larry Nemecek really does work in Trekland.

“Everyone is welcome at this event,” says Baker. “And at the end of the day, we hope participants go away feeling like they were a part of something great!”  If you are interested in participating in the Rapides Parish Library’s 3rd Annual Creative Con, or you would like more information, call Susan Baker at (318) 442-2483 extension 1906.
