Arts Council Logosv2Well, spring is in the air!  Now, whether or not you may believe this seasonal change will happen quickly or not, with the past couple of unusual weather patterns and snow days,  you will soon begin to get into the “spirit of spring” as the temperature gets a little warmer, and you can finally get out of the house without worrying about hazardous driving conditions.  If you would like to look forward to some entertaining evenings, it’s time to mark your calendars now!

The Arts Council of Central Louisiana is proud to present Letters Home, which will be performed Saturday, March 8th, and Sunday, March 9th at Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center.  Letters Home puts the current wars in Afghanistan and Iraq front and center by bringing to life actual letters written by soldiers (as well as some correspondence written by families).  The play gives audiences a powerful portrait of the soldier experience in the ongoing war.  Saturday night’s performance will begin at 7:00pm, and Sunday afternoon’s performance will be at 2:00pm.  For ticket prices, or for additional information, please visit www.louisiana-arts.org, or call Ticket Central at (318) 445-7705.

The time has come for the Spring 2014 ArtWalk!  The Arts Council of Central Louisiana is getting in gear for spring, and we are all looking forward to what unique finds and entertaining guests may appear at the Spring ArtWalk on March 28th from 4:00pm to 9:00pm.  For those of you who may not know, ArtWalk is a free, family-oriented, self-guided walking tour of over 60 participating artists, vendors and live entertainment acts, held semiannually in the Cultural Arts District of downtown Alexandria.  All original artwork sold within the Cultural Arts District is tax-free.  For vendor registration information, please visit www.louisiana-arts.org, or call email Anna Brooks at [email protected].

The Southern Circuit Independent Filming Series and The Arts Council of Central Louisiana are proud to present “Perfect Strangers”, which will be screened on Tuesday, March 25th at Coughlin-Saunders Performing Art Center.  This documentary is about one woman’s search for a candidate to receive her donated kidney.  The film explores the motivations of such an extreme act of compassion and the questions society raises towards such an act.

For all of the Southern Circuit films, General Admission is $12.00, and Student/Military ID is $10.00.  The ticket includes the prescreening reception with light hors d’oeuvres from 6:00pm to 6:45pm, the film starting at 7:00pm, plus a post-film Q&A with filmmakers.  How often do you get a chance to pick a film-makers brain just after watching an interesting documentary?  This unique experience always leads to thought-provoking discussions that add to the film screening experience.
