Southern Circuit Tour Presents Harvest

harvestThe Arts Council of Central Louisiana is pleased to acknowledge RoyOMartin for helping to bring the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers to Alexandria by covering the hosting fee for the tour.  The Southern Circuit is a unique and interactive way of viewing independent films.  Complete with a discussion after the screening, each film event takes the audience away from televisions and computer screens and connects them with the filmmakers, making the film-viewing experience communal.

Our next film, “Harvest”, follows a handful of wineries throughout the Sonoma County wine harvest of 2011–what would later be remembered as the worst harvest in their lifetimes.  “Harvest” reveals the blood, sweat and tears that go into every bottle of wine.   This documentary is all about the back-breaking manual labor.  The film follows five family wineries—Robledo, Rafanelli, Foppiano, Harvest Moon, and Robert Hunter—over a 3-month period.  This is the story behind the wine you drink.

It will be presented on Tuesday, November 19th, at the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center.  There will be a reception from 6:00pm to 6:45pm, and the documentary will begin at 7:00pm.

Filmgoers can expect a theme-based food sampling prior to the film, enhancing the production for all who attend.  There will also be a cash-bar where we will serve various wines, including some from Sonoma County.  While there is no swirling, no sniffing, no sipping or quaffing in the film, you are more than welcome to take advantage of systematically experiencing all the wine’s attributes.  After the film, you will get an opportunity to meet the filmmaker, John Beck.  At this time, there will be a Q&A Session for those of you who would like to pick his brain.

For all of the Southern Circuit films, General Admission is $12.00, and Student/Military ID is $10.00.  The ticket includes the prescreening reception with food, the film, plus a post-film Q&A with John Beck.  These screenings are also funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
