The Louisiana International Piano Competition (LIPC) will be returning to Alexandria/Pineville, showcasing world class musical talent. September 8: ALS Support Group, Gallery Room, second floor RRMC Medical Terrace Building, 6 p.m.- 7:30 p.m. This monthly support group is designed for ALS patients, their family members, friends and caregivers. September 12: Look Good, Feel Better, Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital Cascade Room, Noon. Cancer can rob a woman of her energy, appetite and strength. But it doesn’t have to take away her self-confidence. Look Good … Feel Better is a free program led by a trained volunteer cosmetologist who teaches beauty techniques to female cancer patients in active therapy. September 12: Diabetes Support & Activity Group, Cabrini Women’s & Children’s Hospital Conference Room, 6:00pm. This group will support all diabetics (Type 1 and Type 2) in Cenla. September 14: Diabetes Group Class, Rapides Women’s & Children’s Hospital Trellis Room, 9:00am – 12:00noon. This program is designed for adults with newly diagnosed diabetes and for people needing a refresher course in diabetes management. This is a basic diabetes program therefore no physician referral is required. The program content follows the American Diabetes Association guidelines and uses a variety of teaching methods to enhance learning. This class, taught by a certified childbirth instructor, prepares couples for the actual delivery. Topics include stages of labor and delivery, when to go to the hospital, pain management, assisted delivery, Cesarean birth as well as a tour of Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital. September 17: I’m A Gone Fishin’, Forts Randolph & Buhlow State Historic Sites, 10:00am – 3:00pm. During this program an instructor, dressed in period clothing, will demonstrate how a simple pole line is assembled and used. If weather permits, participants can follow the instructor to the banks of Pierson Lake to look for bait and test the rig.
