School’s Out For The Summer!With the final bell of the 2009-2010 school year at hand, now is the time to start planning great summer activities for your crew that’s about to have a whole lot of free time on their hands. From summer camps, special events and VBS programs set to kick off across Cenla, there’s plenty to do for everyone! We’ve put together a listing of several key dates for easy reference as you set your summer schedule. Since dates and times are subject to change, make sure you contact the sponsoring agency, organization or church for more information about the programs you’re most interested in, and enjoy plenty of fun in the Cenla sun!

Summer Camps

ASH Sports Camp

May 24 – July 30

YMCA Summer Day Camp

May 24 – August 13

8:00am – 6:00pm (Monday – Friday)

$20/day for members; $25/day for non-members

$55/3 day option for members; $60 for non-members

Whether it’s through singing or swimming, through nature hikes or computer classes, counselors at YMCA day camps have led kids in developing good values—and having fun—for more than 110 summers. Early drop-off option also available. Call: (318) 445-8261.

YWCA Summer Day Camp

May 24 – August 17

$105 Registration & first week plus $10 membership fee

$75/week thereafter ($5 discount per additional child)

The YWCA is the oldest and largest multicultural women’s organization in the world whose mission is to eliminate racism and empower women. At YWCA, your child (boys and girls) can develop physical skills like swimming and archery while learning the value of teamwork as well as the experience of being a leader. Call: (318) 442-3397.

Boys & Girls Club Summer Day Camp

May 24 – July 30

7:30am – 5:30pm (Monday – Friday)

$125 for single child; $150 for two; $175 for three

$10 membership fee (if not already a member)

$25 Teen Rate (Ages 13 – 18)

The Boys & Girls Club Summer Day Camp program is open to youth ages 6 – 18, and will include a wide variety of daily activities in a safe place to learn and grow. The Boys & Girls Club provides programs in five core program areas: Character and Leadership Development; Health and Life Skills; Arts, Sports, Fitness and Recreation; Education and Career Development. Camp will meet each weekday for the entire 10-week program, with all tuition due in full before May 24th. Your future star can begin to shine in one of four fantastic Theatre Day Camps hosted by the Lagniappe Theatre Company. Each week will feature lessons and activities in theatre performance, custom tailored to each age group. From introductory dance, role-play, dress-up and themed days for the very young through the advanced elements of a real USO production, there is something for everyone! Each week will culminate with an end-of-the-week performance to show off everything your camper has learned. In addition to their end-of-the-week performance, the Lagniappe Players Camp will present a full-scale USO show as part of the Southern Heritage Museum’s 4th of July Celebration! City of Alexandria Youth Summer Day Camp

June 1 – July 2

The City of Alexandria will host its annual Summer Day Camp at two locations this year—the Martin Community Center and Bolton Avenue Community Center. The camp is open to children ages 6-12, and will include a wide range of activities centered on a weekly theme which varies by week and location. Campers will be served breakfast and lunch each day. City of Alexandria Teen Summer Day Camp

July 5 – July 30

Infinity Sports Camps provide positive sports training that allows every participant to achieve a level of success accompanied by a high level of fun in a spiritual environment.
