RSO Presents Pops on the River

108

The Rapides Symphony will present its annual Pops on the River Concert on Saturday, September 29th at 7:30pm at the Alexandria Riverfront Amphitheater.  The theme of the concert is “A Night at the Movies II.”  The full Rapides Symphony Orchestra will perform much of the best-known music from movies, past and present, including music from Ben Hur, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Sound of Music, and many more.

The Symphony will be joined by Broadway performing artist Natalie Gallo.  Ms. Gallo was recently seen on Broadway in Mama Mia and is currently touring nationally in the role of Mary Delgado in Jersey Boys.  She will sing favorite songs from such films as Funny Girl, Aladdin, and Summer Stock.

As a special addition to this year’s concert, the rich history of film music will be explored in a lecture by recognized film music expert and editor Daniel Robbins on Friday night, September 28th.  The lecture, part of LSU-Alexandria’s “Cavanaugh Lecture Series,” will take place at 7:00pm in the lobby of the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center.  The fun and informative 90-minute lecture will include film clips and musical selections from many silver screen classics.  It is free, open to the public and appropriate for all ages.

As always, the concert is also free and open to the public. Special table seating is available by calling the Rapides Symphony at (318) 442-9709, ext. 2.  Spirit’s Catering will offer pre-packaged gourmet meals available for pre-order and the Spirit’s Food Truck will be on–site at the concert for anyone to purchase food from their special menu.
