RSO Presents “Home for the Holidays”

Rapides Symphony Web LogoThe spirit of “Home for the Holidays” will be on display at the Rapides Symphony’s annual holiday concert on Sunday, December 6th with the return of native Alexandrian oboist Stephen Caplan.  Stephen is known around the U.S. and abroad as a great oboist and as an expert in “Body Mapping”, a method of educating musicians the way their body works when performing to mitigate the possibility of performance injuries.  As an oboist, he has performed around the globe and with many of the biggest names in entertainment as a musician on the Vegas strip.  He currently is professor of oboe at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas.

Of course, you will also hear many of your favorite Christmas carols performed by the symphony, the Louisiana College Chorale, and the Alexandria Senior High choir.  Also at this concert, the Symphony features the region’s best high-school aged string players in our “Side by Side” program.   It is a wonderful opportunity for these young musicians to get a taste of what it is like to make a career as a professional musician.   The Symphony has even had some of the program’s alumni go on to be hired in the orchestra as they continue their careers as young musicians.

Everyone that has been to the concert in past years will agree that it is truly a concert for the whole family and a great way to get in the holiday mood!  The concert is set to begin at 2:30pm on Sunday, December 6th at the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center in Alexandria.  Tickets range from $10.00 to $25.00, and can be purchased at www.rapidessymphony.org or by calling (318) 442-9709.
