The Northeast-Central Louisiana Affiliate of Susan G. Komen For The Cure is pleased to announce the official Race date has been set for the Alexandria Race for the Cure. The race will be held October 16th in downtown Alexandria.
A “Call For Volunteers” event will be held on Thursday, May 13th at the new Christus Cabrini Women’s and Children’s Hospital atrium beginning at 5:30pm. Anyone interested in serving as a volunteer for the race is encouraged to attend. The Race will be comprised of several events including a 1 Mile Walk and a 5K (3.1 miles) fun run/fitness walk. The Race for the Cure will take place in downtown Alexandria. More than 2,000 runners and walkers are expected at the event certified by USA Track and Field. Entry forms will be available online and at local sponsor locations soon including Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital and Hixson Ford. Entry forms will also be available on Race day at the registration table.
Many children’s lives have been touched by breast cancer through mothers, aunts, other relatives or friends. We invite all children from the ages of 5-12 to participate in the race during the 1 mile Kids for the Cure event. This event takes place simultaneously with the adult events. Children who do not want to participate in the run/walk or who do not meet the age requirements can participate in other children’s activities provided on race day.
Seventy-five percent of net proceeds from the Race will remain in the Northeast-Central Louisiana community to fund local community projects related to breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment. The remaining twenty-five percent will support research on a national scale. This year Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital and Hixson Ford are proud to be Presenting Sponsors of the Race.
