Wearing protective eyewear is best, along with hats that have a brim that blocks the sun. Some contact lenses have UV protection, but sunglasses over contacts are recommended for the area around the eyes and parts of the eye left unprotected. Look for quality sunglasses that block 99-100% of UVA and UVB radiation. Gray colored sunglass lenses block out the light intensity without altering the color of objects. Lenses are also available that darken when exposed to UV light so that switching glasses is not necessary. The key is eyewear that blocks the UV and can be worn while being exposed.
