December 6: FAM Day at AMoA, Alexandria Museum of Art (933 2nd Street, Alexandria). The Alexandria Museum of Art opens its doors to the galleries on the first Monday of each month for those with disabilities for private, stress-free viewing of the exhibits. December 4: Three Dog Night, Rapides Parish Coliseum (5600 Coliseum Boulevard, Alexandria), 7:30pm. Legendary music icons celebrating nearly 5 decades claim some of the most astonishing statistics in popular music. In the years 1969 through 1974, no other group achieved more top 10 hits, moved more records or sold more concert tickets than Three Dog Night. November 4-13: Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II, Martin Performing Arts Center (1140 College Drive, Pineville), 7:00pm. Theatre Louisiana College presents the tale of New Year’s Eve, when Eisenstein is being forced to go to jail for punching a police officer. He, however, decides to evade jail for one night so that he can go to Prince Orlofsky’s lavish party. He  wants to go with his friend Falke, so he tells his wife, Rosalinde, that he is heading off to jail. Rosalinde knows that Eisenstein is lying, and follows him, in disguise as a Hungarian countess. Adele, their maid, also feigns an excuse to be released from work that night so that she can also go to the ball, disguised as a Russian actress. After many mistaken identities, Eisenstein attempts to seduce his own wife without knowing. Much frivolity, and many festivities behind them, the great farce ends up with a happy ending for all. November 11-14: Spectral Sisters 17th Annual Ten-Minute Play Festival, Hearn Stage at the Kress Theatre (1102 3rd St, Alexandria). This year’s theme is ‘You’ve Got to Be Kidding.’ The eight selected plays include a variety of subjects ranging from otherworldly to surreal, and everything in between.  Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances begin at 7:30pm; Sunday matinee at 2:30pm. Military admitted free (w/ ID) on November 11th in honor of Veterans Day. Spectral Sisters Productions deals in mature themes, so parental discretion is encouraged. Cost: $10.00.

LSUA Empty Space Players presents the winner of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play. ‘Doubt’ examines the human tendency to convict others with our own convictions and to doubt others with our own doubts. Ongoing-November: New Hope Al-Anon Group, Horseshoe Drive Methodist Church (1600 Horseshoe Drive, Alexandria), 7:00pm.  The New Hope Al-Anon Group meets each Tuesday and Thursday evening. Al-Anon is a mutual support group for anyone having experienced a problem with someone else’s drinking or addiction. You are free to ask questions or to talk about your situation or just listen. Every meeting is different. Each meeting has the autonomy to be run as its members choose, within guidelines designed to promote Al-Anon unity. Cost: Free.

 

November 6 & December 4: Experimental Aircraft Association 1st Saturday Breakfast, Buhlow Lake Airport (200 Lake Buhlow Road, Pineville), 7:30am-10:00am. The Alexandria Farmers Market is a weekly gathering that connects the community of Alexandria with the farmers, ranchers, and agricultural artisans of Central Louisiana. November 10: Child Safety Seat Check, Rapides Regional Medical Center Main Entrance (211 4th Street, Alexandria), 2:00pm-5:00pm. A trained child passenger safety educator will take a look at your car seats, make sure they are not under recall, make sure the seat is installed properly and show you how to install the car seat. The car seat check process takes between 15-25 minutes, depending on how many car seats are in the vehicle. The seat checks normally are held the second Wednesday of each month. Cost: Free.

Paul Nettles of The Levee Tai Chi School leads a class in Qi Gong, which is an ancient system of coordinated body postures and movements combined with deep breathing and meditation.
