Ongoing-November: Arts & Healthcare, Inc. Art Exhibits.  Arts & Healthcare, Inc. will feature the art of Amanda Wolford  at the Christus Gallery for Reflection and Healing, Cabrini Outpatient Center, 1st floor across from Radiology.  The art of Candy Christophe is being featured at the Rapides Gallery located in the South Tower between the ER and the lobby. November 9: The Good Mourning Widowed Support Group, Cabrini Mediplex Serenity Room, 11:00am.  This is an on-going support group for men and women whose spouse has died. November 9: Look Good…Feel Better, Rapides Cancer Center, 11:30am-1:30pm. Cancer can rob a woman of her energy, appetite and strength. But it doesn’t have to take away her self-confidence. Look Good…Feel Better is a program led by a trained volunteer cosmetologist who teaches beauty techniques to female cancer patients in active therapy. November 11: Diabetes Group Class, RRMC Medical Terrace Auditorium, 9am – Noon. This program designed for adults with newly diagnosed diabetes and for people needing a refresher course in diabetes management. This is a basic diabetes program; therefore no physician referral is required. The program content follows the American Diabetes Association guidelines and uses a variety of teaching methods to enhance learning. Topics include meal planning, monitoring blood sugar, medications, complications, and learning to deal with a chronic disease.  The course is taught by Sandy Couvillon, Registered Dietitian, and Amie Starks, Registered Nurse. November 11: Veterans Memorial Tribute Service, Veterans Memorial Plaza at Alexandria City Hall, 1:30pm.  This special tribute, including a “wreath-laying,” will feature Staff Sgt. Akridge from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Polk will be the guest speaker.  The ceremony takes place to offer the opportunity for citizens to again visit the plaza and reflect upon its meaning and symbolism in central Louisiana.  The ceremony is sponsored by the Exchange Club of Alexandria as part of their Americanism program. November 11: Child Safety Seat Check, RRMC Medical Terrace driveway, 2pm-5pm. A trained child passenger safety educator will take a look at your car seats, make sure they are not under recall, make sure the seat is installed properly and show you how to correctly install the car seat. The car seat check process takes between 15-25 minutes, depending on how many car seats are in the vehicle. The seat checks normally are held the second Wednesday of each month. Cost: Free.

 

November 12: Diabetes “Head to Toe” Clinic, RRMC Wound Healing Center, 8am-Noon. This special “Head to Toe” clinic is designed for people with diabetes. Eye screenings, foot exams, blood pressure, hemoglobin A1c tests and nutrition education will be offered to individuals diagnosed with diabetes. November 29: Butterfly Tree Memorial Service, Alexandria Zoo Butterfly Garden, 3pm. This service is open to anyone in the community whose child or grandchild has died. It is a celebration of new life as we bring our Butterfly Tree Ornaments and decorate a Christmas tree in the Butterfly Garden. Please bring an ornament with your child’s picture, dates or any other information (poems, readings, etc.) and come say the name and place the ornament on the tree. December 4: T.R.E.E. House Peppermint Forest, T.R.E.E. House Children’s Museum, 1403 Third Street, 6p.m.-8p.m. Sponsored by the T.R.E.E. House Children’s Museum. December 4: Cenla Drawdown, Renegade Harley-Davidson, 6pm-9pm.  The Cenla Drawdown, presented by Renegade Harley-Davidson, is a social event and raffle to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. All tickets sold will be drawn at random throughout the evening, and the last ticket drawn wins a $5,000 VISA gift card! December 5: Old Fashioned Christmas, Kent Plantation House, 4p.m.-6p.m. Come out and make ornaments for your tree at home and help decorate the Kent House tree. November 3, 10, 17, 24 and December 1: Yoga in the Gallery, Alexandria Museum of Art, 5:30p.m. Yoga is offered every Tuesday at the AMoA thanks to a generous grant from the Rapides Foundation. Yoga instructor, b. Hedrick is an ascetic Taoist yogi with fourteen years of yoga practice. Yoga Tao is for all experience levels, incorporating spirit-mind-body techniques. Cost: Free.
