Ongoing-June 21: George Rodrigue—The River is the Road, Alexandria Museum of Art (933 Second St, Alexandria). Culminating its traveling schedule in Alexandria, this exhibit is the first of its kind and traces 45 years of the river in George Rodrigue’s paintings, exploring the unique ways Rodrigue used the river as a reference to his Cajun heritage, and ultimately as a metaphor for the journey of life. The exhibition, organized by the Life & Legacy Foundation, includes 45 original artworks, including paintings, pastels, and sculptures from the private collection of Wendy Rodrigue, the George Godfrey Rodrigue, Jr. Family Trust, and selected works borrowed from collectors–including AMoA’s “Steamboat”. Ongoing-June: New Hope Al-Anon Group, Horseshoe Drive Methodist Church (1600 Horseshoe Drive, Alexandria), 7:00pm.  The New Hope Al-Anon Group meets each Tuesday and Thursday evening. Al-Anon is a mutual support group for anyone having experienced a problem with someone else’s drinking or addiction. You are free to ask questions or to talk about your situation or just listen. Every meeting is different. Each meeting has the autonomy to be run as its members choose, within guidelines designed to promote Al-Anon unity. Cost: Free.

Ongoing-August 15: Summer Meals for Kids, Rapides Parish Library. The Food Bank of Central Louisiana, Inc. is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all eligible children without charge at the Main Library, Martin, Robertson, and McDonald branches and are only available during posted times. June 9-13: Hobey Ford Summer Reading Entertainment, Rapides Parish Libraries. Hobey Ford is known for excellence in puppetry performance and craft. His intricate shadow puppetry work and creation of the original rod puppets, the “Foamies”, have earned him a place on stages across the world. June 11: Child Safety Seat Check, Rapides Regional Medical Center Main Entrance (211 4th Street, Alexandria), 2:00pm-5:00pm. A trained child passenger safety educator will take a look at your car seats, make sure they are not under recall, make sure the seat is installed properly and show you how to install the car seat. The car seat check process takes between 15-25 minutes, depending on how many car seats are in the vehicle. The seat checks normally are held the second Wednesday of each month. Cost: Free.

June 13-14: 2025 Cenla Pride Weekend, Randolph Riverfront Center. A Pride Mass will be celebrated at St. James Episcopal Church at 5:00pm on Friday evening and this year’s event kicks off downtown at 6:00pm with a dance party and reception suitable for all ages, featuring DJ Dan Chilwell.  This fun evening features food, fellowship, groovy music, and a silent auction of original artwork. Saturday’s activities kick off at noon with the annual Pride Walk beginning near Tamp & Grind on DeSoto Street, parading through Downtown Alexandria to the opening festivities at Randolph Riverfront Center.  Throughout the afternoon, people of all ages will enjoy family-friendly activities, including live music, games, arts and crafts, health and wellness information, food trucks, and vendors. June 14: Parent’s Guide to Safer Gaming on Roblox, McDonald Branch Library (1075 Hwy 497, Glenmora), 10:00am-11:30am. Roblox is one of the most popular games right now. The game is free and accessible from many devices. As an online game, many parents are afraid that their child could be fully exposed to hackers, scammers, and people with bad intentions. But they don’t have to be. If your child plays Roblox often, or wants to play Roblox, we are holding an informational program for parents, guardians and caretakers. In this program, you will learn about the ‘Parental Controls’, a feature that can keep your child secured and safe. June 20-22: 97th Louisiana Women’s Amateur Golf Championship, OakWing Golf Club (2345 Vandenburg Drive, Alexandria). Entries are open to any female Louisiana resident (as of at least 90 days prior to the Championship) who is an amateur golfer (as defined by the USGA and The R&A) holding membership in a LGA Member Club in good standing (2025 club and individual dues must be paid), and possess an authorized Handicap Index of 40.0 or less. Limited to the first 104 entries. Championship Flight will be comprised of 16 qualifying players from the qualifying stroke play round. All other flights will be pre-flighted based on handicap.
