Ongoing-June 22: Sordid and Sacred: The Beggars in Rembrandt’s Etchings, Alexandria Museum of Art. This exhibition features 35 rare etchings by Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669) executed between 1629 and 1648. As one of the towering figures in the history of art, Rembrandt, a miller’s son from the university town of Leiden, was an artist of unmatched genius. Equally gifted as a painter, printmaker, and draftsman, Rembrandt proved himself to be as skillful at making portraits as he was at creating religious and mythological narratives. Ongoing-June 22: Concrete & Adrift: On the Poverty Line, Alexandria Museum of Art. An invitational exhibition featuring regional and national contemporary artists addressing poverty and homelessness. Pairing with AMoA’s exhibition showcasing beggars in Rembrandt’s history etchings, contemporary American artists share the first floor gallery during the Spring exhibit period in “Concrete & Adrift: On the Poverty Line”. This exhibition was juried from over 200 regional and national submissions, and features 39 contemporary artists from around the United States, working in a variety of media. “Concrete & Adrift” confronts a number of issues facing those in poverty and homelessness, two subjects that are often underrepresented and misunderstood in our society today. Ongoing-December 31: CARI Student Art Exhibition, Cane River Creole National Historical Park.  The exhibit features many different mediums of varying compositions completed by 313 student artists representing 15 schools from around Louisiana. Ongoing-June: New Hope Al-Anon Group, Horseshoe Drive Methodist Church in Alexandria, 7:00pm.  The New Hope Al-Anon Group meets each Tuesday and Thursday evening. Al-Anon is a mutual support group for anyone having experienced a problem with someone else’s drinking or addiction. You are free to ask questions or to talk about your situation or just listen. Ongoing-October 31: No Man’s Land Free For All Bass Tournament.  Unlike most bass tournaments, fish length rather than weight will determine the winners. Another unique aspect of this tournament is its Catch-Photo-Release format. Instead of securing fish in aerated live wells for transport to far-off weigh-ins, each bass is laid on an approved, standardized measuring board beside an event identifier card, and a digital photograph is taken and uploaded for scoring. June 20-22: Third Annual Cabrini Cancer Center Patient Assistance Fund Barrel Race, Coushatta Pavilion in Kinder.  The Third Annual Friends of St. Frances Cabrini Cancer Center Patient Assistance Fund Barrel Race will feature thousands of riders, registered vendors, sponsors and riders from across the country all congregating in Kinder to accommodate the participants and supporters.  All proceeds benefit the Patient Assistance Fund.
