Ongoing – June: Arts & Helathcare Art Exhibits. The works of Barry Owen will be featured in the Gallery for Reflection and Healing in St. Francis Cabrini Hospital, located on the first floor of the Outpatient Center; the photography of Charles Ward will be on display in the Rapides Regional Gallery between the South Tower Lobby and ER; and the traveling Lilly Oncology Art Exhibit will be on display at the Cabrini Cancer Center for the first two weeks of June. June 6 – August 23: Dorothea Lange’s America, Alexandria Museum of Art, 10a.m.-5p.m. Tue.-Fri., 10a.m.-4p.m. Sat. Intimate photographs of people and land by Dorothea Lange (1895-1965) captured pride and resilience in the face of suffering during the Depression Era through the postwar period. June 6 – August 23: Through the Eyes of Sarah Albritton, Alexandria Museum of Art, 10a.m.-5p.m. Tue.-Fri., 10a.m.-4p.m. Sat. Ruston artist Sarah Albritton paints reconstructed emotional memories using both real and imagined elements situated in a bird’s eye view of north Louisiana rural landscape, confronting the past with blunt reality. Growing up as and African American in north Louisiana during the 1930s and 1940s she has expressed her experiences through various creative pursuits. June 14: 2014 Rebel State Historic Site Harmonica Contest, Rebel State Historic Site, 7:00pm. Contestants can compete in two divisions: Professional and Amateur. The Professional division will feature previous winners of the annual contest, while all other contestants will compete in the Amateur division. There are five categories, each weighing 20 points each, that contestants will be judged by: (1) timing/meter, (2) technique (method/skill), (3) difficulty of music, (4) stage presence and (5) expression of music (harmony, clarity and tone).
