Ongoing – August 24: Pulp Icons: Stewart Nachmias, Alexandria Museum of Art, 10a.m.-5p.m. Tues.-Fri., 10a.m.-4p.m. Sat. Cast paper and prints created from deeply carved wood blocks, inked directly to act as molds for hand-dyed paper pulp result in low-relief prints. Amusement parks and circuses depicted in rich color embedded in its dimensional surface highlight excitement and danger of urban life with a sense of humor! A group exhibition of contemporary Native artists explores created spaces transcending time and place. The illusion of a singular identity is unraveled through contemporary reworkings of weaving, performance, beadwork, storytelling, mythology, and symbolism, infusing both historical and contemporary processes and references. Imaginary space suspended beyond multiple realities highlight a more honest and accurate depiction of self and suggests new models of thinking and engaging with the world. June 10, 11, 15: Silk Banner Painting, 10:00am-2:00pm. Arts & Healthcare invites the community to join us in painting thre silk banners. June 10-14: AMoA Summer Art Camp Stop Motion Animation, Alexandria Museum of Art. Instructor Cindy Cooper Blair will help campers become movie makers and learn the magic of animation, using puppets, drawings and other objects to create fun stop motion animation short films. June 24: Sibling Class, Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital Cascade Room, 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. This free class is offered to children expecting a little brother or sister. It helps them understand where mom is when the baby is being born and lets them know how important it is to become a big brother or sister. The ideal age for this class is 3-10. June 25-28: Superhero Science Camp, T.R.E.E. House Children’s Museum, 9a.m.-Noon. The camp will be all about superheroes and science. Each day we will focus on a different superhero and a science topic that the superhero is associated with.
