June 4: One Day Breastfeeding Class, Rapides Regional Medical Center, Medical Terrace, Gallery Room, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Intended for women wanting to breastfeed their infants, this class is taught by lactation educator and focuses on advantages, preparation and troubleshooting techniques. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for your baby. Research shows that learning about breastfeeding prenatally enhances your breastfeeding experience. June 6 – 10: Philadelphia Baptist Church VBS, Philadelphia Baptist Church.  Grab a cab and head to the Big Apple Adventure! Amid the exciting sights and sounds of the city, kids will  learn that they can connect faith and life through a relationship with Jesus.  During their day in the city, kids will visit Worship at Times Square and Bible Study at Battery Park.  Call: 318-442-0754.

June 6: Parents Support Group, Power Center, 6:30pm-7:30pm. This is an on-going support group for parents, grandparents whose child has died.  Bereaved Parents Support Group has trained outreach volunteers who are available to the newly grieving parent or grandparent.  This month our focus is: Exploring The Good Memories.  This group is sponsored by Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital and features brown bag supper at 6pm.  Pre-registration is required.  Call Becky Watkins: 448-6938. 

June 7 & 15: Safe Sitter Class, Rapides Regional Medical Center, 7:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m.  For boys and girls ages 11 to 13. Learn the basic skills you need to be a safe and successful babysitter. This medically-accurate, hands-on class teaches sitters how to entertain children and keep them safe, how to perform basic child care skills, how to call for emergency help, what to do when a child chokes, how to keep themselves safe and how to start a successful babysitting business. June 8: Diabetes Group Class, RRMC Medical Terrance Auditorium, 9:00am – 12:00noon.  This program is designed for adults with newly diagnosed diabetes and for people needing a refresher course in diabetes management. This is a basic diabetes program therefore no physician referral is required. The program content follows the American Diabetes Association guidelines and uses a variety of teaching methods to enhance learning.  The course is taught by Sandy Couvillon, Registered Dietitian and Amie Starks, Registered Nurse. June 9: ALS Support Group, Gallery Room, second floor RRMC Medical Terrace Building, 6 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.  This monthly support group is designed for ALS patients, their family members, friends and caregivers. The group will meet the second Thursday of each month. Patients who attend will have access to companies which provide services for ALS patients, such as physical therapy or wheelchair repair. June 11: Childbirth Class, Christus Cabrini Women’s & Children’s Hospital 1st Floor Conference Room, 9:30am – 4:00pm. This class is designed especially for expecting couples from early pregnancy through the delivery process. All classes are taught by certified childbirth educators. Cost: $30.

June 13: The Morning Widowed Persons Support Group, Power Center, 10:00am-11:30am.  This is an on-going support group for men and women whose spouse has died. This month our focus: Dreams That Heal. June 14 – 15: Safe Sitter Course, Power Center, 8:00am – 3:30pm.  Babysitting is a big responsibility! That’s why Christus St. Frances Cabrini hospital will be offering a “Safe Sitter” course to teach boys and girls, ages 11-14, techniques of child care and safety to include how to handle emergencies. June 14: Patience Quilters, West Side Regional Library, 6:30pm.  Patience Quilters meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at West Side Regional Library, located at 5416 Provine Place in Alexandria, off Highway 28 West. It helps them understand where mom is when the baby is being born and lets them know how important it is to become a big brother or sister. June 25: Prepared Childbirth Class (One Day), RRMC Medical Terrace Gallery Room, 9:00am – 2:00pm. This class, taught by a certified childbirth instructor, prepares couples for the actual delivery. Topics include stages of labor and delivery, when to go to the hospital, pain management, assisted delivery, Cesarean birth as well as a tour of Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital. June 27: Look Good…Feel Better, Cabrini Women’s & Children’s 1st Floor Conference Room , 12:00noon – 2:00pm.  “If you look good, you’ll feel better…” that is why Christus Cabrini Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society are offering a very special program called Look Good…Feel Better. June 27: Girl Talk, Women’s and Children’s Hospital Cascade Room, 6 p.m.- 8 p.m.  Rapides Regional Medical Center offers this two-hour class designed for girls between the ages of 8 and 12 – and their mothers. If mothers can’t attend, aunts, grandmothers, even fathers are welcome. The class, taught by a registered nurse, will explain some of the physical and emotional changes that occur to adolescents during puberty. July 2: Ft. Polk Freedom Fest Fireworks Extravaganza, Fort Polk Airfield.  Musical entertainment will be provided by Blake Shelton.
