July 22-24 and 29-31:  Ain’t Misbehavin’-Music by Thomas Wright “Fats” Waller, Directed by Laine Miller, Hearn Stage, 7:30p.m. Fri.-Sat., 2:30p.m. Sun.  Sponsored by City Park Players.  A high-energy tribute to the musicians of the 1920s and 30s that encapsulates the moods of the era and reflects Waller’s view of life as a journey meant for pleasure and play.  Some mature themes.  Cost:  $12 general admission, $10 seniors 65 and older, $5 students.  Call Jean Holliday:  484-4478.

July 25 and 30:  Auditions for Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward, Hearn Stage, 5:30p.m. Mon., Noon Sat.  Sponsored by City Park Players.  This “improbable farce in three acts”, directed by Frith Harwood, will be presented October 7-16 and has parts for five women and two men.  Auditions consist of cold readings of the script.  No experience is necessary.  Cost:  Admission free.  Call Jean Holliday:  484-4478.

July 8, 15, 22 and 29:  Kent House History Camp, Kent Plantation House, 9a.m.-4:30p.m.  Sponsored by Kent Plantation House.  Campers will learn about Native American life in the 19th century from Native American demonstrators and craft projects.  One Friday will be a trip to the Indian Mounds in Marksville.  Each camper must bring a sack lunch but all craft supplies and snacks will be provided.  Cost:  $20 per camper, per session.  Call Kent Plantation House:  487-5998.

July 9: One Day Breastfeeding Class, Rapides Regional Medical Center, Medical Terrace, Gallery Room, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Intended for women wanting to breastfeed their infants, this class is taught by lactation educator and focuses on advantages, preparation and troubleshooting techniques. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for your baby. Research shows that learning about breastfeeding prenatally enhances your breastfeeding experience. July 9: Breastfeeding Class, Christus Cabrini Women’s &  Children’s Hospital 1st Floor Conference Room, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The Breastfeeding Class is taught by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and focuses on the benefits, techniques and concerns of breastfeeding. July 11: The Morning Widowed Persons Support Group, Power Center, 10:00am-11:30am.  This is an on-going support group for men and women whose spouse has died. This month our focus: How the non-bereaved can help. July 11: Look Good, Feel Better, Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital Cascade Room, Noon. Cancer can rob a woman of her energy, appetite and strength. But it doesn’t have to take away her self-confidence. Look Good … Feel Better is a free program led by a trained volunteer cosmetologist who teaches beauty techniques to female cancer patients in active therapy. July 11: Juvenile Diabetes Support & Activity Group, Christus Cabrini Women’s & Children’s Hospital Conference Room, 6:00pm.  The Juvenile Diabetes Support & Activity Group will support children with diabetes (Type 1) and their families. July 12: Sibling Class, Christus Cabrini Women’s & Children’s Hospital Conference Room,6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.   This class is a fun, interactive class designed specifically for young siblings who are expecting a new baby in the home. Cost: $10 per family.  Call: 448-6970.

July 13: Diabetes Group Class, RRMC Medical Terrance Auditorium, 9:00am – 12:00noon.  This program is designed for adults with newly diagnosed diabetes and for people needing a refresher course in diabetes management. This is a basic diabetes program therefore no physician referral is required. The program content follows the American Diabetes Association guidelines and uses a variety of teaching methods to enhance learning.  The course is taught by Sandy Couvillon, Registered Dietitian and Amie Starks, Registered Nurse. July 14: ALS Support Group, Gallery Room, second floor RRMC Medical Terrace Building, 6 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.  This monthly support group is designed for ALS patients, their family members, friends and caregivers. The group will meet the second Thursday of each month. Patients who attend will have access to companies which provide services for ALS patients, such as physical therapy or wheelchair repair. July 15: Sister Cantaloupe in Concert, Coughlin Saunders Performing Arts Center, 7:00pm.  Trina Jeffrie, aka Sister Cantaloupe, the 1st lady of Christian Comedy will appear live in concert in Alexandria.  Cost: $20.00.

July 16: Prepared Childbirth Class (One Day), RRMC Medical Terrace Gallery Room, 9:00am – 2:00pm. This class, taught by a certified childbirth instructor, prepares couples for the actual delivery. Topics include stages of labor and delivery, when to go to the hospital, pain management, assisted delivery, Cesarean birth as well as a tour of Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital. July 16: Childbirth Class, Christus Cabrini Women’s & Children’s Hospital 1st Floor Conference Room, 9:30am – 4:00pm. This class is designed especially for expecting couples from early pregnancy through the delivery process. All classes are taught by certified childbirth educators. Cost: $30.

July 16 – August 27: Smithsonian “Journey Stories” Exhibit, Historic Downtown Leesville.  The Journey Stories exhibition will focus on tales of our ancestors – the ways and means of how they came to America, as well as the stories of those who simply packed up and moved on, in search of a better life. It will use images with audio and artifacts to illustrate vital changes in transportation technology which have had a direct influence on building our diverse American society.  Call John Crook: (337) 238-0783.

July 19: Happiest Baby on the Block, Christus Cabrini Women’s & Children’s Hospital 1st Floor Conference Room, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The program was created by Dr. Harvey Karp and is designed to teach parents simple, effective and fun techniques to quickly soothe their babies’ cries and help them to sleep a little longer.  Cost: $30.

July 21: Safe Sitter Class, Rapides Regional Medical Center, 7:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m.  For boys and girls ages 11 to 13. Learn the basic skills you need to be a safe and successful babysitter. This medically-accurate, hands-on class teaches sitters how to entertain children and keep them safe, how to perform basic child care skills, how to call for emergency help, what to do when a child chokes, how to keep themselves safe and how to start a successful babysitting business. July 25: Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group, Power Center, 11:00am. This group is designed for Caregivers and/or family members of those diagnosed with Alzheimer/Dementia.
