Ongoing – February 21:  Crossing Cultures:  Belle Yang, a Story of Immigration, Alexandria Museum of Art, 10a.m.-5p.m. Tue.-Fri., 10a.m.-4p.m. Sat.  Belle Yang is an author, graphic novelist and children’s book illustrator who translates her experiences as a Chinese-American immigrant into bold, powerful artworks. January 10: RRMC Breastfeeding Class, Rapides Regional Medical Terrace Gallery Room, 9:00am-3:00pm.  Intended for women wanting to breastfeed their infants, this one-day class is taught by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and focuses on advantages, preparation and troubleshooting techniques. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for your baby. Research shows that learning about breastfeeding prenatally enhances your breastfeeding experience. January 12: The Morning Widowed Persons Support Group, Cabrini Mediplex Serenity Room, 11:00am.  This is an on-going support group for men and women whose spouse has died. January 12: Look Good, Feel Better, Rapides Cancer Center, 11:30am – 1:30pm.  Cancer can rob a woman of her energy, appetite and strength. But it doesn’t have to take away her self-confidence. Look Good…Feel Better is a free program led by a trained volunteer cosmetologist who teaches beauty techniques to female cancer patients in active therapy. January 13: Type 1 Diabetes Support Group, Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital Trellis Room, 5:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. A support group for Type 1 Diabetes patients and their families is held the second Tuesday of each month. January 14: Diabetes Group Class, RRMC Medical Terrace Auditorium, 9:00am-noon.  This program is designed for adults with newly diagnosed diabetes and for people needing a refresher course in diabetes management. This is a basic diabetes program; therefore no physician referral is required. The program content follows the American Diabetes Association guidelines and uses a variety of teaching methods to enhance learning. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. January 3:  Wild Azalea Challenge, Wild Azalea Trail, 6a.m.  3rd annual Wild Azalea Challenge located in the Evangeline Ranger District of the Kisatchie National Forest just outside of Alexandria.  At 26 miles, this is the longest contiguous trail in the entire state of Louisiana.  No other trail comes close to the beauty and topography which abounds along the Wild Azalea.  Events include 27 and 50 mile bike, 27 and 50 mile run and 27 mile two person relay.  For information on participant fees and to sign up visit www.ultrasignup.com  Wild Azalea Challenge.  Cost:  Admission free for observers.  Call Billy McRae:  446-4814.
