I Wish I Was as Good a Person as My Dog Thinks I Am

If you are fortunate enough to have a companion that is a canine, you completely understand the feeling of coming home at the end of the day to be greeted by your dog. It does not matter on what terms you left them on, they are always glad to see you. My dog, and I’m sure yours thinks this way too, thinks I’m the greatest human on the planet.  She thinks I have gone out every day and conquered the world, or at least made it a better place to live.  My dog thinks I greeted everyone as she does, with tail wagging and a big smile on my face (yes, dogs do smile).  She thinks I was patient and kind to everyone whose path I crossed that day.  She thinks I was courteous and allowed people in traffic ahead of me, and if they only had a few items at the grocery checkout, I let them in front of me.  My dog thinks I was tolerant of every child I came in contact with that day, whether they be cute as bugs or little demons.  She thinks I used a civil tone of voice with everyone I spoke and that I shared whatever I had with those that were less fortunate.  My dog thinks that I did kind deeds because they needed doing and with no thought of how it would benefit me.

I Wish I Was as Good a Person as My Dog Thinks I AmEvery day when I tell my dog “goodbye” and proceed about my day, I strive to be the person that she thinks I am.  But, I have learned that even if I fail at some of those things and I don’t quite conquer the world, she will still greet me the same way every day, with a smile on her face and her tail wagging. Because, to her, I am the greatest human on the planet and she loves me unconditionally.  We can learn a lot from dogs!!!
