Cosmos, 200 of Your Best Girl Friends and the Ultimate Chick Flick! The Krewe of Gratiae sponsored “Get Carrie’d Away for the Cure” on May 27th, as its team fundraiser for the upcoming Komen Alexandria Race for the Cure.  The evening began with cocktails generously donated by Ray and Kasey Gill of Jack’s, hosted at Walker Mercedes-Benz where “Mr. Big’s” signature Mercedes was on display.  Various local retailers donated an array of gifts which were used as door prizes. Many breast cancer survivors were in attendance and recognized with the Krewe’s signature pink Mardi Gras beads.  The 230 fabulously attired ladies then headed over to the Grand Theater to view the anxiously anticipated Sex and the City 2 feature premiere on two reserved screens while enjoying complimentary popcorn.

With tickets priced at $35.00, this ultimate girls’ night out raised over $7,000 to help the fight against breast cancer! The all-women krewe, which recently voted to declare its platform as breast cancer awareness, hopes to challenge other krewes, clubs, community organizations and businesses to come up with their own creative way to raise money for the cause.

The Komen Race for the Cure is the largest education and fundraising event for breast cancer in the world. Held in more than 120 cities across the country and around the world, more than 1.5 million people are expected to participate in the Race Series this year.   Komen has invested nearly 1.5 billion dollars in breast cancer research and is the largest source of non-profit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.
