Mandalas (Sanskrit for “circle” or “completion”), as an art form, have a long history and are recognized for their deep spiritual meaning and representation of wholeness. Many people and cultures have all derived meaning from the mandala and its captivating beauty. Psychoanalyst Carl Jung has called it “a representation of the unconscious self.” The mandala is widely recognized as a meaningful reflection of its creator. Mandala art therapy and healing can be a great source of reflection on one’s soul. The very nature of creating a mandala is therapeutic and symbolic in and of itself. The shapes and colors you create in your mandala will reflect your inner self at the time of creation. Your instinct and feeling should inspire and guide you through the process of creation. Ultimately, you will be creating a portrait of yourself as you are when creating the mandala. So, whatever you are feeling at that time, whatever emotions are coming through, will be represented in your mandala.
These Community Art Days are free and open to the public. No prior art experience is needed. You can drop in for as little as 5 minutes or choose to stay longer. The best part is that a piece of art will be completed in three hours at each location with the assistance of whomever stops by. Those who attend will also have the opportunity to create a personal mandala that they can take home with them. These Community Arts Days are made possible by a grant from RoyOMartin as administered by the Arts Council of Central Louisiana. Rapides Cancer Center is located at 605A Medical Center Drive and Cabrini Cancer Center is located at 3330 Masonic Drive.
