A number of Capital One initiatives support this prestigious nomination. A book drive in the spring provided 462 books through employee donations, and an additional 200 books were provided by Capital One. The books were presented to the following elementary schools: Bunkie, L S Rugg, Lessie Moore, Ball and Pollock. Twelve employees volunteered to read at local elementary schools to support literacy initiatives
In April, a cadre of Capital One volunteers worked shifts at the Food Bank of Central Louisiana. Over 40 employees helped pack over 800 boxes for the Adopt-a-Senior program. Market President, Nancy Stich, and other associates participated in the Habitat For Humanity “All Woman Build ” in May. In July, Capital One again partnered with the Food Bank of Central Louisiana to raise awareness and accepted contributions in the community for support of the Back Pack Program. As a result, the Food Bank of Central Louisiana was able to expand the number of schools served from 10 to 17.
Most recently, Capital One was a presenting sponsor of the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure local affiliate. In addition to a significant financial contribution, Capital One invested in marketing and publicity to support the fundraising effort. Capital One is the Platinum Sponsor for the Junior League of Alexandria “A Very Merry Market” and is the Presenting Sponsor for the VoA “Cherish the Children Breakfast” on November 4th.
Capital One branch managers and business bankers present financial education to area school children. These presentations have been made in schools in Rapides, Avoyelles and Allen Parishes. Thomas Roque of Community Development at Capital One teaches homebuyer education to new homebuyers from Lake Charles to Alexandria. State Senator Lydia Jackson, a Capital One Associate, has directed financial contributions and contributed her knowledge and experience to key community initiatives including Inner City Revitalization and Rapides Station Ministries.
Capital One associates are encouraged to volunteer, and the Bank tracks employee volunteer activities. Employees who have 25 or more hours of community service have an opportunity to direct a financial donation to the non-profit of their choice. Capital One leadership is represented on many local boards providing their time and talent in leading those organizations.
