The featured performer will be internationally acclaimed pianist, Richard Dowling from New York City. Richard will play classical favorites, Gershwin and ragtime. The concert will honor the memory of local pianist, Dan Hill who passed away unexpectedly last summer. It will also raise funds for local Arts Education programs. August 6: One Day Breastfeeding Class, Rapides Regional Medical Center, Medical Terrace, Gallery Room, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Intended for women wanting to breastfeed their infants, this class is taught by lactation educator and focuses on advantages, preparation and troubleshooting techniques. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for your baby. Research shows that learning about breastfeeding prenatally enhances your breastfeeding experience. August 6: The Big Latch On, Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital Cascade Room, 10:00-11:00am. Rapides Regional Medical Center is happy to host Central Louisiana’s first “Big Latch On” with the help of the Central Louisiana Breastfeeding Coalition and Birth Rite Louisiana. This event is designed to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week. Women and their babies should arrive no later than 10 a.m. to register. At 10:30 a.m., participants will breastfeed their infants for 1 minute – and try to set a world record for synchronized nursing in multiple locations. Refreshments and door prizes will be available. August 9: Mommy Talk – A Teenage Pregnancy Education Program, Cabrini Women’s & Children’s Hospital Conference Room, 5:00-7:00pm. This fun and informative class is especially designed for the “on the go” teenage expectant mom and her support group/family. Special emphasis is given to the continuing needs of teenagers such as health and fitness, nutrition, staying in school, resources for pregnant mom, as well as the labor and delivery process. This program is designed for adults with newly diagnosed diabetes and for people needing a refresher course in diabetes management.
