Arts Council of Cenla LogoThe Arts Council of Central Louisiana presents Abendmusik Alexandria’s third concert, Young People’s Concert, featuring the Young Artists Chamber Orchestra of Alexandria which will take place on Thursday, November 13th at 6:00pm at the Hearn Stage in the Kress Theatre in Downtown Alexandria.

Titled “Young People’s Concert” after the series Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic once presented to introduce children to classical music, November’s Abendmusik summons youth to classical music in another way.  Here, the young people of the title are the performers rather than the audience as November’s Abendmusik features the Young Artists Chamber Orchestra of Alexandria.  This ensemble of 22 local string students is directed by John De Chiaro, and is an extension of his highly-acclaimed Alexandria Youth Orchestra, which has performed at New York’s famed Carnegie Hall and elsewhere throughout the nation.

At Abendmusik Alexandria’s “Young People’s Concert,” the orchestra will play favorites by well-known classical composers like Camille Saint-Saëns and Ralph Vaughan Williams.  In addition, there will be music by living composers Soon Hee Newbold, Larry Clark and others whose pieces are quickly becoming established in the school orchestra repertoire.  There is even a piece featuring soloists Brianna Walker, Elaina Williams and Konner West called Rondo Concertante by Chicago-based composer David O’Fallon.  This program is full of fun and challenging music which will engage audiences both young and old.

Tickets to this concert are $10.00 with a $5.00 appetizer plate option. Reserve your tickets in advance at any TicketCentral booth, online at www.ticket-central.org, or by calling (318) 445-7705. Doors open at 5:30pm and the concert begins at 6:00pm.
