Central LA Arts & HealthcareArts and Healthcare, Inc. is proud to present the art of famed artist/sculptor and Alexandria resident, Morris Taft Thomas.  Mr. Thomas’ art will be featured in the art gallery at Rapides Regional Medical Center during the months of January and February.  The gallery is open at all times, and is located in the South Tower between the ER and the Lobby.

Mr. Thomas was named the 2008 Louisiana Artist of the Year by the Governor of Louisiana.  He was commissioned to create a piece of art for Nelson Mandela and also had a Christmas Tree ornament he created selected for the White House Christmas Tree in 2001.  His sculptures can be found at Louisiana State University, Alexandria City Hall, the Rapides Parish Library, the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center and in many other government buildings, libraries, churches, museums, galleries and private homes throughout the U.S.  He has also presented commissioned works of art to B.B. King, Clifton Davis, Yolanda King, and John Cochran, Jr.

Thomas1-webMr. Thomas’ work comes from his own life experiences.  He says, “My mixed media paintings, though contemporary, reflect simplicity that is explicit and unambiguous enough to convey a message from the past to the present.”  Approximately 20 of Mr. Thomas’ newest works of art are on display at the Rapides Art Gallery including mediums of mixed media collage, acrylic, and pencil.
