If you have been following the work of the Alexandria Historic Preservation Commission, you’ll remember that our March Preservation in Progress award recognized the proposed Alexandria Post War National Register Historic District. This month’s award recognizes a residence within that district. 2822 Madonna is a perfect example of a successful rehabilitation project that utilized state and federal historic preservation tax credits to turn a neighborhood eyesore and nuisance property into a desirable residence with plenty of character and curb appeal.
Tax credit incentives allowed new owner Mark Gravel to conduct a complete interior and exterior rehabilitation. Following a high rehabilitation standard resulted in a property that now improves the neighborhood streetscape and entices great neighbors to this new historic district. In this case, a lovely couple from Connecticut will be returning home to Alexandria to enjoy this updated home and fantastic Mid-Century Modern neighborhood.
