A-Town Jazz Returns April 1stThere’s a good chance patrons of the next “A-Town Jazz” will think they’re in New York City instead of Alexandria when they attend the next evening of “A-Town Jazz” scheduled for April 1st (April Fool’s Day) at the home of Frances and Jim Hurst.  But don’t be fooled; you’re really in Alexandria!

The Hursts have graciously agreed to host the Arts Council of Central Louisiana’s event in their New York-style loft home at the corner of 16th Avenue and Washington Street.  Built in the late 1930’s, the building originally housed a hardware store.  The converted building – which the Hursts spent three years renovating – features wooden floors, exposed brick, iron beams and huge iron-framed windows and includes 5,700 square feet of heated space and 14,000 total square feet.

A-Town Jazz Returns April 1stMusic will be provided by Jordan Baker, an accomplished jazz pianist completing his bachelor’s degree in music this May at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.  Mr. Baker’s professional resume’ includes a long list of scholarships, awards and honors including the national Theodore Presser Foundation Award and several awards presented by Yamaha International in recognition of his original compositions.  He has been involved with many community theatre productions as an accompanist and music director and has been employed by several area churches as a teacher and performer.

Tickets for “A-Town Jazz” are $20.00 per person, which includes the cost of the entertainment and light hors d’oeuvres. There will be a cash bar (beer and wine only).  The doors open at 6:30pm with entertainment beginning at 7:00pm and ending at 9:00pm.  Parking is available next to the Hursts’ home and in the immediate vicinity.  Patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by calling the Arts Council at (318) 443-4718.
