On Sunday, January 25th, the Rapides Symphony will present “Tango del Cielo”, a performance of tango and flamenco dancers accompanied by the musicians of the Rapides Symphony Orchestra.
The featured guest artist is Anna Maria Mendietta, who will play dual roles in the concert–as concert harpist and dancer. “Tango del Cielo” (Tango from Heaven) has been described as “a unique theatrical music and dance program featuring a fusion of many Latin styles including Argentine Tango, Flamenco, Spanish Classical, and Latin Jazz. Tango del Cielo concerts are especially entertaining, incorporating multi-media use of film art, staging, lighting, and effects. The programs are full of surprises and appropriate for audiences of all ages.”
This is the second performance combining live music and dance since the joining of Ballet Alexandria and the Rapides Symphony in 2012. The performance is set for Sunday, January 25th at 2:30pm at the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center in downtown Alexandria. Tickets range from $25.00 to $10.00, and can be purchased online at www.rapidessymphony.org or by calling the Symphony office at (318) 541-6423.
