Whether you’re Irish or not, you’ll want to be “wearing the green” and celebrating St. Paddy’s Day with the Red River Chorale and special guests The Back Porch Band when they present “The Day To Be Irish” at 7:30pm, Thursday, March 17th at First United Methodist Church on Jackson Street in Alexandria. The Chorale will sing Irish melodies and folk songs including “Mairi’s Wedding,” “Belle of Belfast,” “Londonderry Aire,” and others.
Irish tunes are favorites of The Back Porch Band from the Natchitoches community which includes musicians Bill Bryant, Hurst Hall, Richard Rose, Michael Yankowski, Dr. Burt Allen (the artistic director of the Red River Chorale and Coordinator of Music at Northwestern State University) and Andy Giller. They will perform many works on their own, plus accompany the Chorale on several songs.
Tickets for “The Day To Be Irish” are $10.00 for adults, and $5.00 for students of any age. They can be purchased from any Chorale member, at Red River Music in Alexandria, with your credit card by calling the Chorale office at (318) 484-4463, or at the door on a “space available” basis.
