2010-2011 Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Film MakersFor the third consecutive year, the Arts Council of Central Louisiana has been selected as a host for the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers Series. The first film on the circuit,  “The Glass House,” directed Hamid Rahmanian, will be screened in the Coughlin-Saunders Performing Arts Center in Alexandria on Friday, September 24th.  The series is being underwritten locally by Capital One Bank.

The Southern Circuit, now celebrating its 25th year, brings six independently produced films to host cities over the course of eight months, along with the films’ directors and producers, who will participate in a question and answer session with the audience after the screening of each film.

2010-2011 Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Film MakersThe girls of “The Glass House” take us on a never-before-seen tour of the underclass of Iran as they strive to pull themselves from the margins of society by attending a one-of-a-kind rehabilitation center in uptown Tehran. This groundbreaking documentary reflects a side of Iran to which few have access: a society lost in its traditions with nothing meaningful to replace them, and a group of courageous women working to instill a sense of empowerment and hope into the minds and lives of otherwise discarded teenage girls.

A trailer for “The Glass House” is available on the Arts Council of Central Louisiana’s website at www.louisiana-arts.org, along with trailers for each of the films featured in the Southern Circuit.

Tickets for the screening are $5.00 and may be purchased at the box office on the day of the screening, or in advance by calling the Arts Council of Central Louisiana at (318) 443-4718.  Additionally, Silver Ticket Passes for all six films may be purchased for $25.00.  Silver Ticket Passes also entitle the bearer to attend private VIP receptions with each filmmaker on the tour before each show.  Southern Circuit tickets are also included in the Arts Council’s Performing Arts Series season tickets.
