Pam Switzer has been named 2015 Race for the Cure Honoree and will be the Team New Balance Honorary Member for the Susan G. Komen Acadiana Race for the Cure on Saturday, October 24th in Downtown Alexandria. Switzer was selected as an honoree for her personal perseverance against breast cancer and her dedication to raising breast cancer awareness.

Pam Switzer is a three year survivor, a mother of three girls and her first grandbaby is on the way. Three years ago, Pam Switzer’s company, Cleco, became a Presenting Sponsor of the Cenla Race for the Cure. A number of employees who are breast cancer survivors formed a committee to raise additional funds beyond their sponsorship to support the fight against breast cancer. Pam was active on that committee and still is today. The employee led fundraising organized by this amazing group of survivors is inspiring. Cleco has been one of the top three fundraising teams for the last three years.
Pam truly believes in the mission of Susan G. Komen. “I’m fortunate to be employed by a great company that has wonderful benefits. I had excellent care and didn’t have to worry about cost. However, there are many people who don’t have that luxury and need to know that there is a way to obtain breast screenings at no cost,” explains Pam. “Additionally, once they are diagnosed they have a place to turn for support, guidance, direction, education and help with their expenses. Cancer itself is stressful enough, let alone having to worry about finances or going through it alone. Komen is here to help with all of those worries.”
Komen Acadiana’s vision is a world without breast cancer. Their promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality of care for all, and energizing science to find the cures. Komen Acadiana invites the public to Race for the Cure, on October 24th in Downtown Alexandria, as Switzer and nearly 200 local survivors will remember their journey and celebrate the future. Like the other survivors in our community, Switzer is an inspiration to us all.
