If it’s been way too long since you’ve had a comprehensive eye exam, don’t delay.  We know that early detection of eye diseases like glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts result in much lower risk of loss of vision or blindness.  If you wear contact lenses, make sure you dispose of your lenses as prescribed, follow good hygiene in handling of the lenses, and don’t sleep in lenses that aren’t prescribed for overnight wear.  More frequent eye exams and follow-up exams may be necessary for contact lens wearers to insure health of the cornea and proper fitting lenses.

Non-eyeglass wearers and even eyeglass wearers tend to be less regular for eye exams and more likely to go years between eye exams than contact lens wearers.  Even if the glasses aren’t needed or the prescription hasn’t changed, yearly eye exams are important for overall health of the visual system and early detection of eye disease.  Furthermore, other health issues can be discovered such as high blood pressure and diabetes, just to name a few.  Make your appointment soon and resolve to taking care of your vision all year long.
