The fall season is bustling with activity in the City of Natchitoches and every weekend promises fun and exciting things to do for the entire family.  The Cane River Green Market will sponsor several fall markets in October on the following Saturdays: October 9th, 16th and 23rd. Each fall market will take place from 8:00am to 12:00noon on the downtown riverbank in the Natchitoches Historic District.

The market will feature produce, hand-made products and crafts. Live music will be provided at all markets as well as demonstrations and children’s activities. The highlight of October in Natchitoches is the annual Fall Tour of Homes October 8th – 10th. The 56th Annual Fall Pilgrimage, sponsored by the Association for the Preservation of Historic Natchitoches, will feature three tours over a three-day period.  Some of Natchitoches’ most historic and beautiful homes will be showcased during the Fall Tour. Homes on this year’s tour include the Scott Corner House, Laureate House, Rusca House and of course, all-time favorites such as Melrose Plantation and Oakland Plantation.

Natchitoches Fall Tour of Homes and Green MarketA Candlelight Tour will be held from 7:00pm to 9:30pm on Friday, October 8th. Other activities this October include Northwestern State University Demons home football games, a guided tour of the historic America Cemetery and of course, great shopping and dining.

The Christmas holidays are just around the corner and Natchitoches began its celebration early with the unveiling of the annual Natchitoches Christmas Festival Poster. This year’s artist is Shreveport resident Elizabeth Madden. Posters are now on sale for $35.00 each and proceeds help fund art programming in Natchitoches and scholarships for Northwestern State art students.
