Little Walter Music Festival Grows to Two Day Festival

Little Walter LogoThe 2016 Little Walter Music Festival will be a two-day affair in downtown Alexandria on Friday, May 27th and Saturday, May 28th. The expansion means more music and more fun in downtown Alexandria! “We are excited to be able to expand to Friday night this year with the help of our local musicians and downtown community,” said Sherry Ellington, director of the Alexandria/Pineville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, who markets the Little Walter Music Festival.

The Friday evening lineup includes area musicians who exemplify the spirit of music born right here in Central Louisiana–just like Little Walter. The music will begin at 5:30pm. Admission for both days is free to the Alexandria Amphitheater. Food and drink vendors will be on site both Friday and Saturday, as well as arts and crafts vendors on site Saturday.

 

Friday night’s lineup includes Mojo Killjoy, Peas and Cornbread, and the Blindfold Blues Band.  Saturday, May 28th will begin with a harmonica workshop at Tipitina’s Music Coop with Kenny Neal and John Jordan presenting. The workshop will begin at 10:00am. Registration for the free workshop is encouraged by visiting Facebook.com/LittleWalterMusicFestival.  Kids activities will be offered at the Amphitheater on Saturday.

 

Music will kick-off at 12:00pm at the Alexandria Amphitheater. The Saturday lineup includes:

When All Is Lost, Henry Gray, Harmonica Red and the Little Walter Tribute Band, T’Monde, Mr. Sipp “The Mississippi Blues Child”, Nacomi Tanaka & the Blues Temple, Kenny Neal, and Shemekia Copeland.

 

ShemekiaSponsors of the 2016 Festival include the Greater Alexandria Economic Development Authority, the Alexandria/Pineville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, Cenla Broadcasting, City of Alexandria, Louisiana Lottery, Cleco, Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco Free Living, and Enhancesoft.  Other events happening in conjunction with the Little Walter Music Festival include the Color Vibe 5K color run in downtown Alexandria on Saturday morning.
