Sisters Kristine Fletcher Joubert, a well known Alexandria musician and teacher of music will join her sister, Dr. Susan Fletcher Lyle for a special recital of music for voice and viola on Sunday, February 1st at Calvary Baptist Church in Alexandria.

Kristine Fletcher Joubert is the oldest of six girls raised in Escanaba, Michigan, a small town in the  Upper Peninsula of the state.  Upon graduation from high school, she attended Northwestern University in Illinois, studying violin with Angel Reyes.  Transferring to Northern Michigan University her sophomore year, Kristine studied with George Papich, graduating with a Bachelor of Music Education degree.  She worked for two years as a high school string teacher before accepting a graduate assistantship at Ball State University.  There, she studied with visiting artist in residence, Eugene Prokop and served as manager of the Ball State Symphony Orchestra.  In the years since, Mrs. Joubert has served as a string teacher in public schools and private instruction, teaching all levels of string music and orchestra.  She came to Rapides Parish in 1980, teaching strings and leading the Rapides Parish Youth Orchestra until her retirement in 2007.  She is a former member of the Louisiana Music Educators’ Association and is currently a member of the American String Teachers’ Association, the National Federation of Music Clubs and the Louisiana Music Teachers Association.  She also serves as a viola player with the Live Oak String Quartet, having formerly served as a past member of the Rapides Symphony.

Susan Fletcher Lyle, DMA is presently an Associate Professor of Voice at the Petrie School of Music at Converse College in South Carolina. She received her education at Kalamazoo College with a Bachelor of Music Education, and the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Maryland with a Master of Music vocal performance and opera.  She earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in vocal performance and conducting at the University of Oregon.  Dr. Lyle has many performances to her credit throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe, with such organizations as the Baltimore Opera, the Handel Coir of Baltimore, the Vancouver Island Music Festival, the Calgary Canada Bach Festival Society, the Long Bay Symphony, Hilton Head Choral Society, South Carolina Opera and the Bach Consortium in Germany.  Dr. Lyle is also a Master Teacher of Functional Voice Building Method, and has presented papers on the topic at numerous conferences.  She is a Singing Voice Specialist who works with individuals that have injured voices, working to restore their vocal health.  She is an active member of the Voice Foundation and NSTS.  In 1999, Dr. Lyle had the distinction as the first ever female conductor for the Hungarian Radio Chorus as part of a live radio broadcast concert.
