Arts

Ongoing – August: Central Louisiana Arts & Healthcare Exhibits.  Central Louisiana Arts & Healthcare proudly presents our monthly art exhibits at area hospitals and clinics.  Exhibits currently showing: David Lind of Alexandria will be featured in the CHRISTUS Cabrini Gallery for Reflection and Healing located in the Outpatient Center (1st Floor, across from Radiology); Maria Maneman of Alexandria will be featured in the Cabrini Cancer Center; John Orr of Alexandria will be featured in the Rapides Regional Gallery located between the South Tower Lobby and the ER.  For more information on the exhibits, visit www.artsandhealthcare.org; or Call: 769-7602.

September 8:  Breastfeeding Class, RRMC Medical Terrace Gallery Room, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.  . Intended for women wanting to breastfeed their infants, this one-day class is taught by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and focuses on advantages, preparation and troubleshooting techniques. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for your baby. Research shows that learning about breastfeeding prenatally enhances your breastfeeding experience. September 10: The Morning Widowed Persons Support Group, Power Center, 10:00am-11:30am.  This is an on-going support group for men and women whose spouse has died. September 10: Look Good…Feel Better, Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital Cascade Room, Noon. Cancer can rob a woman of her energy, appetite and strength. But it doesn’t have to take away her self-confidence. Look Good…Feel Better is a free program led by a trained volunteer cosmetologist who teaches beauty techniques to female cancer patients in active therapy. In order to provide complimentary cosmetics, advance registration is required. . Please identify what color makeup kit you will need: light, medium, dark or extra dark. Cost: Free. September 10: Sweet & Low Diabetes Support Group, Cabrini Women’s & Children’s Hospital Atrium, 6:00pm.  This month our special guest speaker will be Sister Ann Brangan, LPC. September 10: Bereaved Parents Support Group, Power Center, 6:30-7:30p.m. This is an ongoing support group for parents, grandparents whose child has died.  Bereaved Parents Support Group has trained outreach volunteers who are available to the newly grieving parent or grandparent.  Sponsored by Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital and meets on the first Monday of every month.  This month’s meeting only was moved to the second Monday due to the Labor Day holiday. September 12:  Miracle Jeans Day, area businesses and Rapides Parish Schools, 8a.m.-5p.m.  Sponsored by Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital and Children’s Miracle Network.  Miracle Jeans Day gives companies, organizations, and individuals an opportunity to come together in a casual way to support Children’s Miracle Network atCabriniHospital just by wearing jeans to work.  It’s a way for employees to help raise funds for their local children’s hospital.  Cost:  $5 donation.  Call Christus Cabrini Foundation:  448-6580.

 

September 12: Diabetes Group Class, Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital Medical Terrace Auditorium, 9 a.m. – Noon. Rapides Regional Medical Center is offering this free program designed for adults with newly diagnosed diabetes and for people needing a refresher course in diabetes management. This is a basic diabetes program therefore no physician referral is required. The program content follows the American Diabetes Association guidelines and uses a variety of teaching methods to enhance learning. Topics include meal planning, monitoring blood sugar, medications, complications, and learning to deal with a chronic disease.  The course is taught by Sandy Couvillon, Registered Dietitian and Amie Starks, Registered Nurse. September 12: Alzheimer’s Caregiver Seminar, Westside Regional Library, 5:00pm – 9:00pm. This seminar is offered for caregivers and family members of persons with Alzheimer’s disease and sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association.  Materials and representatives will be on hand from various vendors.  The agenda for the evening will include a presentation from Debbie Hayes, Associate Director for the Alzheimer’s Association, “Know the 10 Signs – Early Detection Matters.”  The second speaker, Stephanie Prestridge, Attorney with Lineage Law, LLC, will discuss “Finding the Estate Plan that Fits Your Life.”  The final session will be hosted by Christus Cabrini Hospice and will review “What is Hospice and What are the Myths about Hospice?”.  Come early and visit these vendors. September 15: Prepared Childbirth Class (One Day), RRMC Medical Terrace Gallery Room, 9:00am – 2:00pm. This class, taught by a certified childbirth instructor, prepares couples for the actual delivery. Topics include stages of labor and delivery, when to go to the hospital, pain management, assisted delivery, Cesarean birth as well as a tour of Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital. September 24: The Alzheimer’s Activity Group, Power Center, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The activity group will be offered for those with Alzheimer’s disease.  The staff from Emeritus Senior Living will offer appropriate activities with a fun, hands-on approach.  This group meets on the fourth Monday of the month in conjunction with the Caregivers Support Group.  The caregiver must attend the Caregivers Group and stay on campus during this group time.  Lunch is provided by Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital.  Call: 866-581-3627.

October 7: Breast Cancer Awareness Day, Alexander Fulton Hotel, 4:00pm.  This is a community service event which Saretta Wilson created as one of her requirements for the Miss Black Louisiana USA Pageant.  Saretta is a member of the Greater St Lawrence B.C., Rev.
