April 11: Diabetes Group Class, Rapides Women’s and Children’s Hospital Medical Terrace Auditorium, 9 a.m. – Noon. Rapides Regional Medical Center is offering this free program designed for adults with newly diagnosed diabetes and for people needing a refresher course in diabetes management. This is a basic diabetes program therefore no physician referral is required. The program content follows the American Diabetes Association guidelines and uses a variety of teaching methods to enhance learning. Topics include meal planning, monitoring blood sugar, medications, complications, and learning to deal with a chronic disease.  The course is taught by Sandy Couvillon, Registered Dietitian and Amie Starks, Registered Nurse. April 21: Red River Urban Adventure Race and Family Adventure Race, Buhlow Lake Recreation Area in Pineville 8 a.m. This inaugural race, featuring three-person teams, consists of 3-4 miles of canoeing, 3-5 miles of cross country and urban running, orienting and 10-15 miles of biking. April 1-May 31:  Spring Martial Arts Special, Master Rousseau’s Taekwondo, time:  varies.  Beginner children’s classes Tue. and Thur. 6:20-7:05p.m. and Sat. 10:30-11:15a.m.  Adult classes Thur. 8-9p.m. and Sat. 12-1p.m.  Nine weeks of martial arts instruction with uniform.  Cost:  $99 per person.  Call Master Rousseau:  443-8066.
