Look Good … Feel Better is a free program led by a trained volunteer cosmetologist who teaches beauty techniques to female cancer patients in active therapy. March 11: Diabetes Group Class, Rapides Women’s & Children’s Hospital Trellis Room, 9 a.m. – Noon. Rapides Regional Medical Center is offering a new, free program designed for adults with newly diagnosed diabetes and for people needing a refresher course in diabetes management. This is a basic diabetes program taught by a registered nurse and dietician, therefore no physician referral is required. The program content follows the American Diabetes Association guidelines and uses a variety of teaching methods to enhance learning. March 23: Mommy Talk: A Teenage Pregnancy Education Program, Christus Cabrini Women’s & Children’s Hospital Conference Room. This fun and informative class is especially designed for the “on the go” teenage expectant mom and her support group/family. Special emphasis is given to the continuing needs of teenagers such as health and fitness, nutrition, staying in school, resources for pregnant mom, as well as the labor and delivery process. Classes will be taught by a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner and a Certified Childbirth Educator. Cost: Free.

Teams of three will participate in canoeing, mountain biking and trail running. Navigational skills a plus. Adult race will last three to four hours; beginners challenge will last one hour. April 10: 3rd Annual Joey Giordano Memorial Fishing Tournament, Red River at Colfax. The past two years have been great tournaments and we look forward to the one in 2010.
