All Gold! In February, that will be the theme when Louisiana State University of Alexandria welcomes a new tradition to campus. It’s time for Homecoming!
All alumni, former students and friends of LSUA are invited and encouraged to participate in the scheduled events. Activities for the week will focus on creating more engagement with Central Louisiana and increasing affinity for the growing campus.
“This campus has a tremendous history, and Homecoming serves as a time to celebrate that history while showcasing the present and future of LSUA,” says Adam Jonson, LSUA’s director of athletics. “We will continually embrace new and fun ideas, and Homecoming is a prime example of that.”
The Homecoming Court will be elected by student vote after nominations are made by on-campus organizations during the first week of the spring semester. Court members will participate in community service projects during the week, as well as represent the university at athletic events and other campus activities.
To jumpstart the Homecoming activities, “All A Wednesday” features a T-shirt swap for students, faculty and staff in the morning, followed by various community service projects in the afternoon. On Thursday, a “gumbeAux” cook-off seeks student organizations, faculty and staff as well as outside businesses and inviduals as participants.
A faculty and staff brunch with the Homecoming Court begins Friday’s activities. LSUA baseball and softball will host events at Generals Field, and the nightcap will feature LSUA Hoops, where the King and Queen will be announced.
In keeping with the golden theme, the Generals’ basketball doubleheader crowd is encouraged to don gold shirts at the games. As the Queen is announced at halftime of the men’s game, she will be awarded with a crown of gold, of course.
On Saturday, the LSUA Student Government Association will sponsor a student tailgate and the LSUA Foundation will feature an “Alumni and Friends” tailgate at Generals Field. Both the softball and baseball teams will be in action beginning mid-morning. The tailgate will be hosted from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
